Eduacational intervention on sexually transmited infections

Abstract

When considering the existence of sexually transmitted infections in adolescents and evaluating how knowledge about them is related to prevention, we set out to analyze the effectiveness of an educational intervention on sexually transmitted infections in adolescents who attend consultations at the Cleopatra White Clinic in Belize City. Belize, during the period of time between September 1, 2015, to March 1, 2016. For this, an Educational Manual was designed, and with its use, it was possible to raise knowledge about Sexually Transmitted Infections in an extremely vulnerable population. Empirical methods were used: observation and surveys and theoretical methods of analysis and synthesis: induction, deduction and system approach. Our study showed that 80% of the sample of adolescents had little knowledge on the subject, which validated the educational intervention designed with the proposed objectives. At the end of the intervention, 93.3% of the participants had an adequate level of knowledge on the subject, and it was concluded that the intervention was effective. It is recommended to carry out educational interventions to achieve a better prevention and finally the eradication of sexually transmitted infections.
