Abstract

Introduction: Infertility is a global health problem and is part of health and state policies to address it in the coming years. Material and method: A descriptive, retrospective investigation was carried out on the total number of couples who attended the Human Reproduction consultation at the América Arias Gynecobstetric Teaching Hospital from January to December 2017. Objective: Determine the main epidemiological aspects and reproductive risk factors. Results and discussion: In the age distribution, the 30–34 years old group prevailed for both sexes, more than half of those studied had a history of good health. The most frequent diseases were bronchial asthma and high blood pressure. The type of infertility was secondary after 3 to 5 years, with an obstetric history of proven pregnancies in the woman, and in the man, a history of not having children. The most prevalent toxic habit was smoking. Among the reproductive risk conditions in women, the highest prevalence was pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic pain and neck diseases. In men, they were: the use of clothing that affects testicular function, operations, varicoceles and sexually transmitted infections. Conclusions: Knowledge and study of risk factors give us the possibility of acting at different levels of care for their modification and prevention.
