Evolution of models for the study of satisfaction in users of health services

Introduction: The models proposed for the study of user satisfaction of health services such as Donabedian, Ware, Saturno, Hall and Dorman, SERVQUAL, SERVPEF among others; They have evolved over five decades and allow us to identify the dimensions of satisfaction and implement strategies to improve services and design new Public Health program policies. Objective: Describe the evolution of the models derived from the study of satisfaction in users of health services, with the purpose of having an initial guide for research on this topic. Methods: Review of EBSCOhost, PUBMED, Google Academic databases. Keywords such as “patient satisfaction”, “health services”, “perception of satisfaction”, “user of health services”, “measurement tools”, “satisfaction models” were used, in combination with operators such as AND and OR. Conclusions: The evaluation of satisfaction is a complex, multifactorial process that must be methodologically individualized according to each health care system. The selection of the model and/or dimensions to study in a particular context will depend on the researcher's criteria.
