A training intervention for nurses was performed to increase their knowledge about the monitoring of preconceptional reproductive risk, at the Asdrúbal López Vázquez University Polyclinic in Guantánamo province, Cuba, from October 2013-2014. Sixty-three nurses, all from the offices of family doctors, participated. The variables analyzed were professional category, general and specific knowledge of preconception reproductive risks and conditions to carry out appropriate control and follow up of the program. The
results were obtained by questionnaires and a competency exam. These were summarized as numbers and percentages, and also
represented in frequency and distribution tables. General nurses prevailed (53.9%). There was a higher lack of information about
the concept of the program (28.5%), as well as risk factors (38.0%), 79.3% of the nurses did not know what was expected after controlling risk in their populations. After the training, 90% acquired the necessary knowledge about the issues addressed.
